Can I drive a car I’ve hired in America into Canada on my holiday?
The majority of car insurance providers will not let you take your rented car in America into Canada, usually for insurance reasons. Enterprise have in the past allowed our customers who have asked at the desk when picking up the car to pay a small premium to be allowed to take the car into Canada. Expect to have the car thoroughly searched at the border as you make your way into Canada. Often it’s easier to just get the train.
Which car hire companies don’t require the driver to own a credit card?
Generally speaking you can’t hire a car without a credit card. There will be exceptions around the world, usually at a local office level, and some rental agents may allow you to leave a large cash deposit when hiring you a car. There are no companies that we know of who offer credit card free car rental as standard unfortunately. You can pay on the credit card and pay the amount straight off it using money in your bank account and will not incur any additional interest charges for doing so, and a credit card offers you better protection against fraud.
